"Live your life each day as if you were climbing a mountain. An occasional glance towards the summit keeps the goal in mind, but the many beautiful sights along the way make reaching the goal not only an accomplishment but a triumph."

Try to reflect on all of the sights that lead you to your summit this year. Be thankful for those who gave you the support and motivation to get there and look at your year as not only a small accomplishment, but another triumphant year in the FFA.

I Believe In The Future Of Ag...
Feb. 28, 2010

It is awe inspiring to see over 200 FFA members from all over the State of Wisconsin come together for one common purpose. January 26th and 27th, the Farm Bureau Federation sponsored the FFA Farm Forum Conference in Wisconsin Rapids for high school juniors interested in pursuing agriculture careers.

On Friday, FFA members had the opportunity to attend workshops about technical college, media advertising, misconceptions in agriculture, and the Wisconsin Farm Bureau. After that, all of the attendees had the distinct pleasure to watch legends of the Farm Bureau demonstrate their knowledge on agriculture in the discussion meet.

Saturday brought another great day of workshops about agricultural careers, YFA opportunities, and agriculture-based curriculum. The conference ended with a very inspirational speech from Mr. Steve Boe, who highlighted the 2009-2010 State FFA Theme of “Aspire. Act. Achieve.”

Thank you, Farm Bureau Federation for sponsoring such a beneficial conference for those who are passionate about agriculture and agricultural careers!

National FFA Week!
Feb. 28, 2010

"Lead Out Loud" - the phrase we've been hearing since the National FFA Convention in October 2009. This phrase has been lived out to its fullest in the past week as FFA chapters from all 50 states, including the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico, celebrated National FFA Week.

FFA Week is designed to celebrate progress in agriculture and the developments that FFA has been making since 1928. The great part about National FFA Week is that every single FFA chapter celebrates it differently.

Wisconsin has been blessed this past week to have Miss Randa Braune, National Western Region Vice President visit and share her Texas flavor with Wisconsin FFA. Thank you, Randa for all of your passion, knowledge, and power to impact those around you!

“LEAD OUT LOUD!”

"The greatest crime in the world is not developing your potential. When you do what you do best, you are helping not only yourself, but the world." ~ Roger Williams

Every person has something that they are good at. In fact, they have something that they are better at than anyone else. When we can recognize those things that we do best, we can realize that our potential in that area is endless and that having such a talent can be used to help our schools, community, and nation.

People often think that one person cannot change the world. However, change started with just one person. As this week is National FFA Week, let’s recognize those things that we do best, and use them towards celebrating the progress in agriculture and the success that our FFA chapters have had!

Success Again in 2010!
Feb. 15, 2010

The 2010 Alumni FFA Convention theme was "Success Again In 2010." This theme was clearly lived out when witnessing Wisconsin FFA Alumni members show their enthusiasm and support for their organization.

Two FFA baskets were auctioned, along with the eleven painted saws that were arranged and created by the 2008-2009 State FFA Officer Team.

It was truly unique to see how individuals that come from different corners of the state can work flawlessly together in creating a successful event. Thank you Chilton FFA for donating beautiful corsages and boutonnieres to the State FFA Officer team. Also, thank you to those who put all of their effort, time, and work into making the 2010 Alumni FFA Convention a success!

I am so eager to see how we continue to point in the right direction in 2011!

CTSO - Making Agriculture Count!
Feb. 15, 2010

On Thursday, the team met in Madison for CTSO Legislative Day. CTSO stands for Career and Technical Student Organization.

All of the Career and Technical Student Organizations spent the day meeting with senators and representatives to promote their organization and stress the importance and impact they make as State Officers.

The most influential part of the day was when Governor Doyle signed law AB-236, allowing Agricultural Education courses that meet science requirements to be counted for high school graduation science credit.

This is one huge step for Agricultural Education!

"Never believe that a few caring people can’t change the world. For, indeed, that’s all who ever have." ~Margaret Mead

Simple Ways To Care For Others-

I. Smile at them.

II. Delight in their discoveries.

III. Send them a letter, postcard or e-mail just for fun.

IV. Believe in them.

V. Respect them.

VI. Truly listen when others talk to you.

Caring for someone else can create great levels of courage and help them be more confident in their successes. As spring rolls around, let’s make it a goal to care for those around us!

Do You Know Your Agriculture?
Jan. 31, 2010

Welcome to the land of high school administrators, school board members, and supporters of the educational community!

On January 20th-21st, BJ and I traveled to the Midwest Airlines Center in downtown Milwaukee to represent Agricultural Education and FFA.

While there, we spent two days promoting our passions at the trade show. On the first day, Mr. Zee from Marshfield joined us at our booth to promote the Marshfield FFA and their ag programs!

On the second day, Mr. Laatsch from Beaver Dam brought a challenge for all of the convention goers. He presented various tanned animal furs and challenged school board members to test if they were smarter than an ag student!

Needless to say, this was a very successful and enjoyable event!

"Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success." ~Henry Ford

With the recent earthquake that struck Haiti, teens and school organizations from all over the United States are stepping forward to reach out and make a difference for those who truly need it.

There is a program called Build On that is working towards supporting the Haitian relief. You may wonder "How Can I Help?" You can go to www.buildon.org to learn more. From this site, we have the ability to pledge money towards the Haitian relief, volunteer in the Build On program, and keep updated on the lives that young adults have touched. As of today, 1,523,445 lives have been changed because of the Build On program.

Henry Ford said it perfectly in knowing that coming together, keeping together, and working together is a success!

Hopped On The Plane To SFO!
Jan. 17, 2010

On Tuesday, the team was ready for the warm temperatures that San Francisco would bring us! The past few days have been jam packed with sightseeing, learning historical facts, having Officer Nights Out (ONO).

I have never been to a city quite like this before. There are so many fantastic people to meet in the world and I had never realized how many there are until this year when having the opportunity to travel.

On Tuesday, the team arrived in SFO around noon and began our adventures traveling via cable car to China Town, the Cable Car Museum, and Ghirardelli. Our MOE (Moment Of Excitement) for the day was that we had the opportunity to visit the curviest road in the World!

On Wednesday, the team began the morning by taking a cruise line over to Alcatraz. This eerie and mysterious island allowed us to discover all of the history behind those who have lived in Alcatraz and families that were raised on the island. What an awesome experience! Then we spent the day discovering the ships and beaches that lined the Fisherman’s Wharf.

Thursday brought a day of tours. The team traveled to the museums, botanical gardens, and dressed up for a night on the town. That night, part of the team went to explore more of San Francisco’s historical appeal while others went to see the Broadway production of Wicked! That was a “Wicked” experience!

On our last day in the beautiful city, the team toured the Muir Woods, Sausalito, and visited the beach once again before heading back to the hotel to pack. This journey has taught us so much about culture in different areas of the country and has allowed us to bond with each other even more!

Don’t forget to check out the Wisconsin Association of FFA Facebook page and the State Officers’ Facebook profiles to see pictures from this journey and from the 2010 Half-Time Conference.

Until next time, stay warm and take care!

Flight 2557 To San Francisco!
Jan. 12, 2010

This update is being sent from the Madison airport at approximately 6:00am. The team just got through security and is getting ready to board the plane to San Francisco! This team trip will be sure to bring memories that will last for a lifetime. While on this journey, the team will be visiting the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, and staying near the Fisherman’s Warf. We are very excited as we are about to fly to San Francisco and spend the week in warmer temperatures!

Stay warm here in Wisconsin!

What has over 320 FFA jackets, 8 workshops, and 16 hours of excitement?

THE 2010 HALF TIME CONFERENCE!!!

There was no doubt that discovering “Oh The Places You Will Go” could take us to new heights of leadership.

On Thursday before the conference, the team met at the Ramada Hotel in Stevens Point and began nine hours of decoration set-up in order to prepare for the conference of the year. Friday morning brought excitement as last minute preparations were made before registration early in the afternoon.

At about 6:35pm, the first workshop of the night kicked off with a bang. Anticipation rose as the fourth workshop of the night concluded for there was a surprise that was going to unfold that night.

At the dance, FFA members had a preview of the 2009-2010 Wisconsin FFA theme song titled “Aspire. Act. Achieve.” Wisconsin is the first state in history to produce a state theme song. Get ready for this song to be premiered at the Hockey Extravaganza on February 19th at the Madison Kohl Center!

The night ended with the reflections program about all of the directions one can choose to travel. Hopefully we have all discovered that all directions are positive and can take us somewhere new in life.

Saturday morning workshops concluded the 2010 Half Time Conference followed by BJ’s words of wisdom and a picture slideshow from the conference. As the second half of the year progresses, we all have the ability to make it a year to remember!

“Oh The Places You Will Go” in FFA are endless!

"Every day is a new opportunity. You can build on yesterday's success or put its failures behind and start over again. That's the way life is, with a new game every day." -Bob Feller

Opportunities are in front of us each and every day. With the ringing in of the New Year, it is our duty to take advantage of the new opportunities that come our way!
