Welcome to Wisconsin Association of FFA

Established in 1929, the Wisconsin Association of FFA is an association of the National FFA Organization whose mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education. Wisconsin has 255 FFA chapters statewide and over 19,000 members.

The FFA operates on local, state and national levels. Student members belong to chapters organized at the local school district. In order for a school district to charter and maintain an FFA chapter, there must be a certified licensed agricultural educator hired by the school district who then also serves as the chapter advisor.

FFA members are part of a total program in agricultural education, consisting of classroom instruction in agriculture, supervised agricultural experiences where students gain career skills and on the job training and leadership development through the FFA organization.

2015 State FFA Membership Awards
As we are winding down the year in terms of the 2014-15 FFA membership - the final due date for all members to be submitted is March 2 - don't forget that there are several membership awards that chapters can earn.

1. Largest Percentage of the School Population Involved in FFA This award recognizes chapters that have involved a large percentage of their school population in their FFA chapter as members. The application is online at http://www.wisconsinffa.org/membership/. For chapters that have involved such a high percentage of their school in the FFA and they don't have as much opportunity to keep increasing in number of members, this award can recognize those chapters. The application must be completed in order to be eligible for this award.

2. Largest Membership Increase in each Section and the Overall Largest Increase Statewide After the final membership is submitted your membership increase will be calculated based on your last year's membership. The chapter that increases the most in each section will be represented at the State FFA Convention and an overall winner will also be announced.

3. PRIDE Award Every chapter that increases 10 members from their membership last year will be recognized with a PRIDE Banner that will be presented at the State FFA Convention.

4. Largest Percent Increase The chapter in the state that has the Largest Percentage Increase in their membership will be recognized at the State FFA Convention.

5. Largest FFA Chapter The chapter in the state with the largest FFA membership for the 2014-2015 school year will be recognized with a plaque at the State FFA Convention.

6. Membership Recruitment Award Chapters that have put together a recruitment and retention plan for increasing their membership can submit an application and compete for top awards for their activities and planning in membership recruitment and retention. The application is attached which provides guidelines on how to apply for this award.

Many of these awards are based upon your final membership calculated from your FFA membership roster as of the March 2 deadline.

ALSO REMEMBER that the members that are submitted for membership must also be PAID members, so don't forget to send in your membership dues payment to DPI in order for all your members to be final processed through the state and counted toward the above awards.

American Degree Eligibility
"How long is an FFA member still eligible to apply for their American FFA Degree or continue their FFA membership?" A student can be an FFA member until November 30 following their fourth National FFA Convention after graduation...unless there is some military service to consider and then they can be a member until age 23. So here is a quick way to figure out if a student is still eligible. Take the year that the student graduated and count the number of National FFA Convention following that graduation date.

Graduation May 2012
1st National Convention - October 2012
2nd National Convention - October 2013
3rd National Convention - October 2014
4th National Convention - October 2015 - This would be the last national convention that this member could receive recognition at. They must apply for the degree by March 5, 2015.

State FFA Honorary Degree Nominations Due March 2
Taken From State Constitution and By-Laws 2006 - Honorary Membership - Non-Teachers
Farmers, school superintendents, principals, members of boards of education, chapter advisors, teachers, staff members in agricultural education, businessmen, and others who are helping to advance agriculture education and the FFA and who have rendered outstanding service, may be elected to honorary membership by a majority vote of the members present at any regular meeting or convention. Honorary membership shall be limited to the Honorary Chapter FFA Degree to the local chapter, Honorary Wisconsin FFA Degree to the State Association.

Honorary membership recognizes individuals who contribute to the Wisconsin Association of FFA at the state level, e.g., serving on a state committee, serving as an advisory member, or in some way serving the State Association. State FFA Officer Election Process Information Online
The Wisconsin Association of FFA is seeking qualified FFA members to serve as state FFA officers for the coming year. State FFA Officers need to be individuals who have a strong sense of responsibility, know and understand FFA and its programs, communicate well and have the heart and desire to willingly commit a year of service to the Wisconsin Association and its members. At the end of the year, state FFA officers receive leadership scholarships and have a year-long resume of experiences that give them a cutting edge for many future opportunities. Applications are due April 27.

Students that are elected to these leadership roles, need to fully understand the commitment and responsibilities that are required to fulfill their year of service. Please review the polices and commitment statement online along with all the parts of the election process. Serving as a Wisconsin State FFA Office is an internship experience like no other. Students will not only gain confidence and skills in leadership but will receive a variety of experiences to help them expand their knowledge of agriculture, agricultural education and FFA.

The 2015 State FFA Officer Election Process is online at http://www.wisconsinffa.org. Make sure that all students interested in running for state officer view this material. If you have questions about running for State FFA Office, contact Cheryl Zimmerman at wiffacenter@tznet.com.
